Non-Medical Home Health Aide and Companion Care for Seniors in Oceanside — Personal Care, Dementia Care, Overnight Care, Post-Discharge Coordination from Mount Sinai South Nassau, and Caregiver Matching That Families Can Count On | 7 Day Home Care | Nassau County
Quick Answer — What Is Non-Medical Home Care in Oceanside, NY? Non-medical home care is daily support provided in the home by a NYS Certified Home Health Aide — assisting older adults with bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers, toileting, meal preparation, medication reminders, and safety supervision. The HHA does not diagnose, treat, or administer medications. This is distinct from the skilled medical home health care provided by hospital-affiliated agencies following physician orders. 7 Day Home Care provides non-medical private duty home care throughout Oceanside, NY 11572, and coordinates post-discharge care with Mount Sinai South Nassau at One Healthy Way — the flagship Long Island hospital of the Mount Sinai Health System, within the hamlet itself. Every caregiver is our W-2 employee, NYS certified, and supervised by a Registered Nurse. The minimum HHA shift is six hours. Call (516) 408-0034.
What is the difference between non-medical home care and skilled medical home health care in Oceanside?
Non-medical home care — provided by a Home Health Aide — covers daily personal care tasks: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers, toileting, meal preparation, medication reminders, and safety supervision. It is private duty care that continues as long as the family arranges it. Skilled medical home health care — provided by licensed nurses and therapists under a physician's order after a qualifying hospitalization — covers wound care, injections, physical therapy, and clinical assessment. Mount Sinai South Nassau operates its own skilled home health care agency. 7 Day Home Care provides non-medical private duty HHA care. After skilled services end, non-medical care from 7 Day Home Care begins — and the two often overlap during the transition. Call (516) 408-0034.
What is the minimum number of hours for a Home Health Aide visit in Oceanside?
The minimum shift for a Home Health Aide visit at 7 Day Home Care is six hours. This applies to hourly care arrangements throughout Oceanside. Families who need care for more limited daily periods may also inquire about companion care arrangements. Call (516) 408-0034 to discuss the schedule that fits.
How much does home care cost in Oceanside, NY?
Home care in Oceanside typically starts at approximately $33 per hour with a six-hour minimum shift. Overnight care starts around $330 per shift. Live-in care starts around $429 per day. 24-hour care starts around $792 per day. General reference ranges only — not a guarantee. Long-term care insurance may offset costs significantly. Call (516) 408-0034.
Does Medicare cover home care in Oceanside?
Medicare does not cover non-medical private duty home care. Medicare covers physician-ordered skilled home health care — nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy — following a qualifying hospitalization. Mount Sinai South Nassau's own home health agency provides skilled services covered by Medicare during the immediate post-acute period. Once those services conclude, the ongoing non-medical daily personal care that keeps a parent safely at home is funded through private pay or long-term care insurance. 7 Day Home Care coordinates this handoff from skilled to non-medical care. Call (516) 408-0034.
Does long-term care insurance cover home care in Oceanside?
Yes, in most cases. Most long-term care insurance policies cover non-medical home care provided by a licensed LHCSA when the insured requires assistance with two or more ADLs or when a cognitive impairment trigger applies. 7 Day Home Care manages benefit verification and claims at no charge. Call (516) 408-0034.
Oceanside sits at the center of Nassau County's South Shore — 5.4 square miles between Sunrise Highway and the waters of Long Island's South Bay, with Mount Sinai South Nassau at One Healthy Way running directly off Merrick Road in the middle of the hamlet.
The hospital's location tells you something important about Oceanside. This is a community that takes its healthcare proximity seriously. Mount Sinai South Nassau is the flagship Long Island hospital of the Mount Sinai Health System — awarded America's 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention and America's 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery. For an Oceanside family managing a parent's post-surgical recovery from a knee or hip replacement, their primary hospital is not minutes away — it is in their hamlet.
What is equally important for Oceanside families to understand is the handoff that happens when a patient leaves Mount Sinai South Nassau. The hospital's own skilled home health care agency provides physician-ordered skilled services — nursing visits, physical therapy, occupational therapy — covered by Medicare during the immediate post-acute recovery period. Those services are excellent, and they are time-limited. When they conclude — typically after a defined period following discharge — the ongoing daily non-medical care that keeps your parent safely at home begins. That is where 7 Day Home Care enters.
We coordinate the non-medical care transition with Mount Sinai South Nassau's discharge planning team before the client leaves: conducting the RN home assessment of the specific Oceanside home, developing the care protocol for the postwar ranch or split-level or Cape Cod on Long Beach Road or Atlantic Avenue, and confirming the HHA before discharge day. On the morning the skilled home health agency concludes its visits, 7 Day Home Care is already in place.
Oceanside's homes are predominantly postwar — the ranches, splits, and Cape Cods of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s that the era's rapid Nassau County development produced. Many have original bathroom configurations: tub with step-over threshold, no grab bars, compact hallway layouts. For a resident recovering from orthopedic surgery at Mount Sinai South Nassau — one of the best orthopedic surgery hospitals in the country — the specific bathroom configuration of their Long Beach Road ranch is the specific hazard the RN home assessment addresses before the first morning home.

What Makes Oceanside Different for Home Care
Quick Answer — What Is Distinctive About Home Care in Oceanside? Oceanside's home care context is shaped by the presence of Mount Sinai South Nassau — one of the country's top-ranked hospitals for orthopedic surgery and coronary intervention — within the hamlet itself. This creates a specific post-discharge dynamic: many Oceanside residents undergo major joint replacement or cardiac procedures at their neighborhood hospital and return home to a postwar ranch or split-level that was not designed with post-surgical mobility limitations in mind. The non-medical daily care that bridges the gap between the end of skilled services and the long-term safety of living at home is what 7 Day Home Care provides — starting from the RN home assessment of the specific Oceanside property before discharge day. Call (516) 408-0034.
Mount Sinai South Nassau — The Orthopedic and Cardiac Center in the Hamlet
Mount Sinai South Nassau at One Healthy Way has been serving the South Shore Nassau community for decades. Its recognition as one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for both Orthopedic Surgery and Coronary Intervention means that Oceanside residents who need joint replacement, cardiac procedures, or major surgical care are likely to receive that care within their own community. This proximity is a genuine advantage — and it creates a specific post-discharge home care need that 7 Day Home Care is positioned to serve.
After a knee replacement at Mount Sinai South Nassau, the patient returns home to their Oceanside ranch or split-level. The hospital's skilled home health team may provide physical therapy visits for a defined period. But the daily personal care — the morning shower, the safe transfer from bed to standing, the dressing protocol, the bathroom navigation — requires a professional non-medical caregiver present in the home for the six-hour minimum shift. That is not what the hospital's skilled agency provides. That is what 7 Day Home Care provides.
The Handoff from Skilled to Non-Medical Care
For Oceanside families navigating a parent's post-discharge recovery, the handoff from skilled home health care to non-medical home care is a critical transition that many families do not know to plan for. When Mount Sinai South Nassau's home health agency concludes its skilled visits, the ongoing daily support does not automatically continue. A non-medical home care agency must be arranged separately — and the most effective time to arrange it is before the skilled services end, not after the gap has already opened.
7 Day Home Care coordinates with Mount Sinai South Nassau's discharge team to ensure the non-medical care transition is in place before the skilled visits conclude. This means the HHA is already familiar with the client and the home — the specific bathroom configuration, the transfer protocol, the morning care sequence — when the daily skilled visits end and the non-medical daily care continues.
The Postwar Home Care Challenge
Oceanside's residential stock reflects the rapid postwar development that built much of Nassau County's South Shore. The ranches and splits on Long Beach Road and Atlantic Avenue and Foxhurst Road were built for young families in the 1940s and 1950s — not for their grandchildren's parents navigating post-surgical recovery. Original bathroom tubs with step-over thresholds. Split-level stairs between the bedroom floor and the main floor. Compact kitchen and bathroom configurations where turning radius and grab bar placement matter enormously in the first weeks after hip or knee surgery. The RN home assessment addresses all of this before the first caregiver arrives.
Services Available in Oceanside, NY
Personal Care and Home Health Aide Services
Hands-on daily assistance by NYS Certified Home Health Aides — bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers, toileting, continence care, meal preparation, medication reminders, mobility support, and safety supervision. The minimum HHA shift is six hours. For Oceanside's postwar ranches and split-levels, the RN home assessment documents the specific bathroom configuration, staircase layout, and post-surgical movement protocols from the Mount Sinai South Nassau discharge notes before the first shift. The care plan starts from this specific home — not a template. Learn more: Personal Care Services
Companion Care
Social engagement, emotional presence, daily routine structure, medication reminders, light household support, and accompanied outings to the Oceanside Public Library on Davison Avenue, Long Beach Road businesses, and the community activities that structure an Oceanside resident's week. For a parent whose mobility or safety has limited their daily participation in community life, a companion caregiver who knows Oceanside and provides consistent daily engagement is providing something that prevents a specific kind of isolation. Learn more: Companion Care Services
Overnight Care
Non-medical overnight safety supervision, nighttime bathroom assistance, fall prevention, dementia wandering supervision, and Parkinson's nighttime mobility support — seven nights per week. For post-surgical clients in the early weeks after a Mount Sinai South Nassau orthopedic procedure, the overnight bathroom trip is the highest-risk single daily event. The overnight caregiver is briefed on the specific home layout and post-surgical protocols before their first shift. Learn more: Overnight Care
Alzheimer's and Dementia Care
Non-medical in-home dementia care across all types and all stages — Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson's disease dementia, and Mild Cognitive Impairment. Consistent caregiver assignment — the same person, on a stable schedule — is the foundational care priority for every Oceanside dementia client. Language-matched caregiver assignment is available in all languages spoken in Oceanside households. Learn more: Alzheimer's and Dementia Care

Post-Discharge Home Care in Oceanside
Quick Answer — How Does Post-Discharge Home Care Work After a Mount Sinai South Nassau Discharge? When an Oceanside resident is discharged from Mount Sinai South Nassau, 7 Day Home Care coordinates non-medical home care before the discharge date: we receive discharge notes, conduct the RN home assessment of the Oceanside property, develop the care protocol for this specific home, and confirm the HHA before the client leaves. For post-surgical clients transitioning from Mount Sinai South Nassau's own skilled home health team to non-medical daily personal care, we coordinate the handoff so the non-medical care is in place before the skilled visits conclude. A Family on Long Beach Road
A family in Oceanside contacted us on a Tuesday. Their mother — seventy-seven, who had lived in the same split-level on Long Beach Road since 1968 — had undergone knee replacement surgery at Mount Sinai South Nassau on Friday morning. By Monday, the hospital was discussing discharge for Wednesday.
The Long Beach Road split-level had a specific post-surgical challenge that the family had not fully anticipated. The master bedroom was on the upper level. The full bathroom — original 1968 construction, with a tub and a four-inch step-over threshold — was on the same upper level. But the split-level entry created a five-step transition between the ground level and the bedroom level that the orthopedic team's discharge notes flagged as a post-surgical priority. Five steps. Original handrail on the left side. Right knee replacement. The weight-bearing restriction applied to the right side.
The family's daughter called us Tuesday afternoon. She described the Long Beach Road split-level, the five-step entry transition, the bathroom configuration, and the right knee weight-bearing restriction from the Mount Sinai orthopedic team. She also asked a question that most families ask somewhere in the first conversation: "What if the caregiver we get doesn't work out with my mother? She can be particular."
We told her what we tell every family who asks: if the match isn't working — for any reason — we make an adjustment. We take the caregiver-client relationship seriously. An arrangement that is not working does not stay that way. We find the right fit.
She mentioned, before hanging up, that she thought her mother might have a Transamerica long-term care insurance policy from the mid-1990s. She wasn't sure it was still active.
We verified the Transamerica policy within forty-eight hours. Active. Daily benefit with inflation rider. Elimination period: ninety days.
We conducted the RN home assessment of the Long Beach Road split-level on Wednesday morning. The five-step entry transition, the right knee protocol, the bathroom tub threshold, the handrail placement relative to the weight-bearing restriction — all documented before the Thursday discharge.
The first caregiver met her at Mount Sinai South Nassau on Thursday morning.
The daughter called us two weeks later.
"My mother loves her. I mean, actually loves her. I asked if she wanted me to stay over the first weekend and she said no, the caregiver was handling it. The Transamerica policy starts paying after ninety days. We almost didn't look for it. It's been active since 1995."

Long-Term Care Insurance for Oceanside Families
Most long-term care insurance policies cover non-medical home care when provided by a licensed LHCSA and when the insured requires assistance with two or more Activities of Daily Living, or when a cognitive impairment trigger applies. 7 Day Home Care manages benefit verification, claims submission, and all ongoing documentation at no charge.
Genworth · CNA · Brighthouse · Mutual of Omaha · MetLife · Transamerica · John Hancock · New York Life · Northwestern Mutual · MassMutual · Lincoln Benefit Life · UNUM · AIG · American Heritage · Bankers Life
Transamerica policies — like the one in the case study above, active since 1995 and nearly not investigated before the Thursday discharge — are among the policies 7 Day Home Care most frequently encounters for South Shore Nassau County families. A policy purchased in the mid-1990s has been compounding inflation riders for thirty years. It is worth looking for before the discharge, not after the first month of private-pay care.
How the elimination period works in Oceanside: Most policies include an elimination period — typically 30, 60, or 90 days — before benefits begin. Care from a licensed LHCSA counts from the first day of service. For an Oceanside resident discharged from Mount Sinai South Nassau on Thursday, care that begins Thursday starts the elimination period clock that Thursday. A 90-day elimination period means the policy begins paying 90 days after the first care shift — a specific, calculable date the family can plan around.
The two-ADL trigger for post-surgical clients: A resident returning from knee replacement surgery at Mount Sinai South Nassau who needs assistance with the morning shower and with getting dressed has, in most cases, already met the two-ADL threshold for their LTC policy's benefit trigger — from the first day of care.

When Do Oceanside Families Arrange Home Care?
Families typically contact us following a specific event — a discharge from Mount Sinai South Nassau, the transition from skilled home health to non-medical care, a fall, a dementia diagnosis, or the point where the family's daily caregiving capacity has reached its limit.
Families often describe:
- A discharge from Mount Sinai South Nassau following knee or hip replacement surgery, cardiac care, or any inpatient procedure — with a return to a postwar split-level or ranch whose entry stairs and original bathroom configuration require a specific post-surgical care protocol before the first morning home
- The point when Mount Sinai South Nassau's skilled home health team concludes its visits and the family realizes that the daily personal care their parent needs does not automatically continue — and needs to be arranged separately
- A fall — in the original bathroom, on the split-level entry stairs, in the kitchen of a Long Beach Road or Foxhurst Road postwar home — that arrived without warning
- A parent with Alzheimer's or dementia whose daily safety in the Oceanside home has crossed the threshold where unmonitored time is no longer reliably safe
- A family that has been providing daily care and has reached the physical and emotional limit where professional relief is not optional anymore
- The discovery of a long-term care insurance policy — a Transamerica policy, a MetLife policy, a John Hancock policy — from a professional career that has been paying premiums for decades and nearly wasn't investigated
Frequently Asked Questions — Home Care in Oceanside, NY
What is the minimum number of hours per day for a Home Health Aide in Oceanside?
The minimum shift for a Home Health Aide visit at 7 Day Home Care is six hours. This applies to all hourly HHA care arrangements in Oceanside and throughout Nassau County. Families whose daily care needs are more limited may wish to discuss companion care, which can be structured differently. Call (516) 408-0034 and we will explain the options that fit.
What does a Home Health Aide do — what are their daily responsibilities?
A 7 Day Home Care Home Health Aide provides hands-on assistance with Activities of Daily Living — bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers, toileting, and continence care — as well as meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, safety supervision within the home, and mobility support. They observe and report any changes in the client's physical or behavioral status to the Registered Nurse care team and family. They implement the care plan developed by the RN for this specific client in this specific home. All services are non-medical. Learn more: HHA Duties and Responsibilities
What if the chemistry between my parent and their caregiver is not ideal — can we request a change?
Yes. If the relationship between your parent and their assigned caregiver is not working — for any reason, whether it is personality, communication style, daily routine compatibility, or simply a feeling that the match is not right — 7 Day Home Care will make a caregiver adjustment. We take the caregiver-client relationship seriously, and an arrangement that is not working does not stay that way. Please call (516) 408-0034 as soon as you have concerns and we will find the right fit. The goal is a caregiver your parent looks forward to seeing.
What kind of home care does 7 Day Home Care provide after a discharge from Mount Sinai South Nassau?
7 Day Home Care provides non-medical private duty home care — the daily personal care and safety supervision that continues after the hospital's skilled home health team concludes its physician-ordered visits. This includes bathing, dressing, transfers, toileting, meal preparation, medication reminders, and overnight supervision. We coordinate with Mount Sinai South Nassau's discharge planning team before the client leaves, and we coordinate the handoff from skilled to non-medical care so there is no gap. Call (516) 408-0034 while the patient is still at the hospital — not after discharge day.
Does 7 Day Home Care provide Alzheimer's and dementia care in Oceanside?
Yes. 7 Day Home Care provides non-medical Alzheimer's and dementia care throughout Oceanside — including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson's disease dementia, and Mild Cognitive Impairment. Every dementia care arrangement starts with consistent caregiver assignment — the same person, on a stable schedule — because familiarity is the foundational element of effective daily dementia care. Wandering supervision, sundowning management, and language-matched caregiver assignment are all available. Call (516) 408-0034.
What is the difference between the home health care that Mount Sinai South Nassau provides and what 7 Day Home Care provides?
Mount Sinai South Nassau operates a skilled home health care agency that provides physician-ordered medical services — nursing visits, physical therapy, occupational therapy, wound care — following a qualifying hospitalization. These services are covered by Medicare for eligible patients and typically continue for a defined post-acute period. 7 Day Home Care provides non-medical private duty home care — the daily personal care and safety supervision that is not covered by Medicare and continues for as long as the family arranges it. The two services are complementary, not competing: the hospital's skilled team addresses the clinical recovery; 7 Day Home Care provides the daily personal support that makes living safely at home possible throughout and after that recovery. Call (516) 408-0034.
Does 7 Day Home Care provide overnight home care in Oceanside?
Yes. Non-medical overnight care is available seven nights per week throughout Oceanside. For post-surgical clients in the early weeks of recovery in a split-level or ranch home, the overnight bathroom trip is the single highest-risk daily event. The overnight caregiver is briefed on the specific home layout — the entry stairs, the bathroom configuration, the post-surgical movement protocol — before the first shift.
What is long-term care insurance and how does it apply to home care in Oceanside?
Long-term care insurance is a policy — typically purchased during an active professional career — that pays for qualifying home care when the insured person requires assistance with two or more Activities of Daily Living or has a qualifying cognitive impairment. Most policies require care from a licensed LHCSA. 7 Day Home Care verifies coverage, manages all documentation, and handles claims at no charge. If you are not sure whether your parent has a policy, call (516) 408-0034 before the first day of care. A Transamerica or MetLife policy from the 1990s that has been compounding for thirty years is worth finding before Thursday's discharge. Learn more: Long-Term Care Insurance

After the Skilled Team Leaves. Before the Family Reaches Its Limit. That Is When to Call.
The families who navigate post-surgical home care most successfully in Oceanside are the ones who called before the discharge, not after the first gap. Who found the Transamerica policy in the folder before Thursday rather than in month four. Who arranged for the non-medical care transition with 7 Day Home Care while the skilled home health visits from Mount Sinai South Nassau were still running — so the morning the skilled visits ended, the non-medical care was already in place.
They also ask the right questions. "What if the caregiver isn't a good fit for my mother?" The answer is yes, we make the adjustment. "What is the minimum hours?" Six hours per HHA shift. "What will the caregiver actually do?"
Everything in the care plan, every shift, under RN supervision.
"My mother loves her. The Transamerica policy starts paying after ninety days. We almost didn't look for it. It's been active since 1995."
